Sharknado 4 Gets Star Wars Pun Title

Yes, SyFy creature feature series ‘Sharknado’ is still not showing any signs of slowing - and they’ve dreamed up a wonderfully pun-tastic title for their fourth installment.

Variety reveal the latest in the notorious franchise from equally notorious production house The Asylum will be entitled ‘Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens.’

Yes, this news broke on April 1st, but it seems safe to say this is for real. After all, the previous two installments were respectively entitled ‘Sharknado 2: The Second One’ and ‘Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!’

It’s highly debatable as to whether any of these oddball creature features, based around the bizarre phenomenon of a tornado filled with sharks, have even come close to providing the entertainment value the title suggests.

Still, they keep making them, so presumably someone must like them; and according to Variety, 2.81 million viewers tuned in for the SyFy Channel’s premiere screening of ‘Sharknado 3′ in 2015.

Established series stars Tara Reid, David Hasselhoff and Ryan Newman will return, alongside ‘Sharknado’ newbies Gary Busey, Cheryl Tiegs, Tommy Davidson, Imani Hakim, Cody Linley and Masiela Lusha.

The series owes much of its success to its popularity on social media, which will come directly into play on the fourth film as online fans will decide the fate of Tara Reid’s character, via the hashtag campaign #AprilLives or #AprilDies.

‘Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens’ premieres on SyFy in the US on 31 July - no UK air dates confirmed yet.
