Sicario Sequel Confirmed By Producers

It looks as though ‘Sicario’ is officially getting a sequel.

According to ‘Sicario’ producer Molly Smith, a second instalment is already in the works… and is said to reunite the original cast.

“We’re in full development with the studio,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I just got a draft and we’re really excited.” According to the report, co-producer Thad Luckinbill claimed that the original cast are all “on board”.

“We’ve circulated it to the reps,” he said. “And everybody [from the cast of the original is] on board.”

And that apparently includes original writer, Taylor Sheridan.

“Taylor’s a really great world-builder,” added co-producer Trent Luckinbill. “He’s got that kind of modern Western voice, which is in vogue right now. And he did it again [with the sequel]. It’s a great big world.”

But where will the sequel take its stars, Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro?

“We can’t reveal the plot, but you’ll see [Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin] all come back,” he explained. “You have such a great character with Benicio, who was as dark as he was and still so loved. That character resonates so well with audiences. People want to know what happened to him, so it’s a perfect foray for us to explore.”

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, ‘Sicario’ was a surprise hit – opening to impressive reviews.

But will Villeneuve return for a sequel?

“Obviously we would love it if Denis could [direct]. He’s a busy man, but he’s certainly part of the process with us right now.”

Either way, ‘Sicario 2’ is happening… and that’s great news.
