EastEnders star Sid Owen admitted he didn’t want to show his face during an appearance on Loose Women due to the injuries he picked up after being hit in the face by a golf ball.

The 48-year-old suffered horrific injuries during a Thailand getaway earlier this year which left him needing surgery to rebuild his jaw.

During a video interview on the lunch time panel show, Owen, appearing with screen wife Patsy Palmer, opted to show a photo of himself on his monitor rather than appear on camera himself.

Asked by the panel why this was, the Ricky Butcher actor admitted it was because his confidence was low after the coronavirus pandemic put plans to have his teeth fixed on hold.

Telling the panel, he said: "Back in January, I had my accident and I'm still having problems with my teeth and stuff like that. Down to coronavirus I've not been able to get down to the dentist.

"So it's knocked my confidence a bit."

After the accident at the start of 2020, Owen told The Sun: “One minute I’m playing a round and the next I’m in total agony and on my way to hospital. But actually I’ve almost been lucky because they’ve told me if it had hit me two inches higher up I’d probably be dead from that sort of impact.”

Owen was struck at close range while playing golf at the Siam Country Club Old Course near Bangkok when the ball ricocheted off a tree and hit him.

He said: “Of course it hurt like hell, but it was the shock factor too. I remember seeing two teeth fly straight out of my mouth but it turned out to be a fracture in my face and a broken jaw, along with another tooth embedded into my jaw.”
