Siegfried & Roy Biopic In The Works

It looks as though a ‘Siegfried & Roy’ biopic is on the way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the legendary magicians and tiger tamers will be getting their own movie… and a director has already been found.

“Las Vegas performers Siegfried & Roy are getting the biopic treatment,” they revealed. “Philipp Stolzl will direct the movie about the German magicians who became Las Vegas stars and whose careers were stopped short by an on-stage tiger attack in 2003.”

Of course, Siegfried & Roy are most famous for their Las Vegas show, which was tragically cut short after an incident in 2003 where Roy was allegedly attacked by one of their tigers.

The duo has frequently disputed this, claiming that instead, he suffered an on-stage stroke… and that any tiger injury was secondary to that.

But will this defence make it into their biopic?

“The image of Siegfried and Roy floating down onto the stage in their fantastical outfits, landing amidst a pack of snow-white tigers, has been burned into my mind since I was a boy,” said director Philip Stolzl. “It was truly out of this world. Being able to tell the story of Siegfried and Roy, covering all their successes, desires and dreams, is a wonderful gift that comes with a special set of challenges for me as a director.”

The magicians themselves – Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Uwe Horn – will act as executive producers, along with Sebastian Werninger and Jan Mewes.

Siegfried & Roy’s Las Vegas act was obviously incredibly popular… and it’s estimated that more than 25 million people saw the show at the Mirage Resort and Casino.

The tiger-taming duo said they were “excited and honoured” that producer Nico Hoffman would be adapting their story for the big screen.

But will they risk using real tigers, or could we see a ‘Life of Pi’ approach?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
