Silver Surfer may pop up in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

As if Avengers: Infinity War didn’t have enough Marvel heroes in it there are now claims that the Silver Surfer will be popping up too.

That’s according to Metacritic which lists the actor Curt Clendenin as playing the space-travelling Norrin Radd in the new movie. It would certainly make sense to have him in Infinity War as he’s one of Thanos’ main adversaries and constantly comes up against him in the comic books.

However, the rights to the character are owned by 20th Century Fox so Disney wouldn’t automatically be able to use him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That being said, the studios may have worked out a deal to allow the Silver Surfer to pop up briefly to provide backstory, or context to Thanos’ acquisition of some of the Infinity Stones he already has in his gauntlet.

Disney have just acquired the studio through a deal that has probably been a long time in the making so Fox may well have let the Russo Brothers use him in Infinity War. It certainly wouldn’t be unprecedented given Marvel Studios and Sony’s collaboration on Spider-Man: Homecoming and Captain America: Civil War.

Likely, if the Silver Surfer does appear and it’s not an error, his appearance could be similar to that of the Green Lantern Corps in Justice League; more of a fleeting moment than significant role.

The fact that an unknown actor is linked to the Surfer certainly supports this theory as they probably would have cast a bigger name if the  character was going to have a more substantial outing.

The Silver Surfer’s only big screen appearance was in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, so we’ll have to wait until April 26 to find out if he does make his second in Avengers: Infinity War.
