Marvel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Big Little Lies may not seem to have too much in common on the surface, but their worlds are due to collide in the upcoming animated movie Sing 2 as the star-studded voice cast of the sequel is confirmed.

Marvel's Scarlett Johansson and Big Little Lies star Reese Witherspoon will reprise their respective roles as crested porcupine musician Ash and pig singer Rosita from the 2016 hit Sing, while they will be joined by new signings in the form of Black Panther's Letitia Wright and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Chelsea Peretti.

Also returning to the big-name cast are Matthew McConaughey as ambitious koala Buster Moon, Taron Egerton as singing gorilla Johnny, Tori Kelly as Indian elephant Meena and Nick Kroll as dancing pig Gunter.

Joining the cast for the sequel will be singers Pharrell Williams (who has also been involved with the Despicable Me movies), Halsey and comedian Eric Andre.

Sing 2 will reunite us with Buster and his all-star cast of animal performers as they celebrate turning the New Moon Theater into a local hit. But Buster's dreams are even bigger than the New Moon, and he sets his sights on debuting a new stage show in Redshore City, the entertainment capital of the world.

With no connections, Buster and the gang sneak into the Crystal Entertainment offices to meet a ruthless mogul wolf named Jimmy Crystal (Ant-Man's Bobby Cannavale).

Gunter desperately pitches a spontaneous idea to Mr Crystal which Buster ends up running with their new show, which will star lion rock legend Clay Calloway played by U2's Bono, in his first animated film role.

But there's a huge spanner in the works. Clay is the most reclusive rock star in the world and hasn't been seen for more than 10 years after losing his wife.

As the pressure from Mr Crystal builds, Buster and the gang begin to dream up a theatrical extravaganza and desperately try to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage.

As Buster and his friends try to pull off the biggest show of their lives, they begin to realise that music has the power to heal broken hearts.

Following the inclusion of the likes of 'Hallelujah', 'I'm Still Standing' and 'Shake It Off' in the original movie, we're sure we can also expect to hear dozens more classic pop and rock songs being tackled in the sequel.

Sing 2 is due for release in January 2022.
