Neal Purvis and Robert Wade join interplanetary reboot for TV with Nicolas Winding Refn

Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have signed on to write Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Barbarella' TV series.

The pair have written the past five Bond films, including the record-breaking 'Skyfall'.

Winding Refn announced that he was to direct and produce the series last year, following previous involvement from 'Sin City' director Robert Rodriguez.

“I’m certain that the combination of our creative forces will produce a show that is as enthralling as it is sexy,” said he said.

The new show will be based on the original Jean-Claude Forest comic book, which also provided inspiration for the iconic 1968 film, directed by Roger Vadim and starring Jane Fonda.

The comic, and the film, followed space traveller Barbarella through various – some overtly sexual – cosmic adventures.

It will also be executive produced by Martha De Laurentiis, the wife of Dino De Laurentiis, who produced the original film.

Meanwhile, Purvis and Wade were recently announced to be working on an updated version of 70s detective show 'Kojak', with Vin Diesel.
