Slender Man Horror Meme Gets Film Adaptation

It looks as though ‘Slender Man’ is getting his own film…

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the now-iconic horror meme of Slender Man is getting its own movie adaptation.

“Horror meme Slender Man is heading to the big-screen,” they revealed. “Screen Gems is in negotiations with Mythology Entertainment, the production company run by Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt and William Sherak, to produce a film version of the Internet-grown intellectual property.”

The story of Slender Man began on the website Something Awful which was, at the time, conducting a photo contest. Eric Knudsen submitted various photos of children which had been photoshopped to include a mysterious figure with unnaturally long limbs and an entirely featureless face.

The accompanying narrative implied the man was involved in the disappearance of children as well as other horrific acts.

Of course, the images soon went viral… taking on a life of their own as others contributed to the ongoing narrative of Slender Man. New images, short stories, short films, and even video games added to the mythology.

And now that mythology is heading to the big screen.

“Madhouse Entertainment and It Is No Dream Entertainment are also involved with the deal, as the two are partners with Mythology in the venture.”

The film’s script is being written by ’13 Sins’ scribe David Birke and the search will soon be on to find a suitable director.

But who will want to take on the legend of Slender Man?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But we could find some of horror’s biggest talents queuing up for this one.
