Smurfs: The Lost Village: Joe Manganiello reveals BIZARRE childhood hobby

We knew Joe Manganiello was a tough guy, but we didn’t expect him to be this tough.

Manganiello, who plays Hefty in the new animated adventure ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’ (in cinemas 31 March), revealed to Yahoo that he used to collect and polish animal skulls as a kid. We were quizzing the ‘Magic Mike XXL’ star about whether he was the outdoorsy type when he made the revelation.

“When I was a kid I used to go on lots of hikes,” he told us, “I don’t know why I just thought of this, but I used to collect animal skulls in the wild. I’d take them home and I would varnish them and keep them in these containers in my closet.”

Alrighty then.

In ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’ Hefty, along with Clumsy (Jack McBrayer), Brainy (Danny Pudi), and Smurfette (Demi Lovato) venture forth into the wilderness, but there’s no skull-collecting in this movie.

The gang are out to save the village from Gargamel (Rainn Wilson) and uncover the secrets of the Lost Village but Smurfette is also on a mission to uncover her true identity, something that her voice actor can relate to.

“I think that at some point everyone’s questioned a little bit about who they are, and what their purpose in life is,” pop singer Lovato explained.

“But as long as you follow what your heart believes in, and don’t let people change what you think, and also follow your passion maybe that can help you with figuring out your identity.”
