Snowfall star Damson Idris responds to season 4 finale's dramatic ending

Snowfall spoilers follow.

Snowfall star Damson Idris has opened up about the crime drama's dramatic season 4 finale.

The episode, titled 'Fight or Flight', saw Idris's character Franklin Saint finally hang up the cane he'd been so reliant on since Melody shot him in the previous season – something that the actor says they'd "been building up to" for a while.

"That Keyser Soze moment was really special," he told TVLine, admitting that the scene reminded him of the final moments of The Usual Suspects. "The biggest thing for viewers was, 'When are we going to get back to Franklin being well?'"

In the sequence, Franklin pays a visit to Mel (Reign Edwards) and urges her to get everything off her chest while she's got the chance before menacingly adding that once he's done with her, there won't be any more.

"I'm not mad at you for shooting me," he growls. "I know you was f**ked up on that pipe. And in the end, I've come out of it stronger. So I was going to let sleeping dogs lie. But then you decided to go behind my back and talk about my business and create a whole shitstorm of problems for me and mine, and I can't have that."

Recognising that this will likely be her last opportunity, Mel asks Franklin whether he killed her father, Andre, to which he fails to give her an answer. Instead, he spared her life, told her to take care of herself and hooked his walking air on the back of a chair as he left.

"He's so vulnerable," Idris continued during the breakdown. "It created a great sense of tension. And Franklin knew that, too. To get to that final moment with Melody, it's almost as if the job was done.

"He doesn't need anyone to see him as being vulnerable anymore. He doesn't need to be 10 steps ahead anymore. Now he can just focus on the business. He realises in that moment that he's come full circle. That's why it was special putting down that cane."

Snowfall airs on FX in the US.
