Someone's made 2016 into a chilling horror movie trailer

There’s a consensus that 2016 has been a particularly bad year for a long list of reasons. Of course, that’s not everyone’s opinion or experience – just look at Leonardo DiCaprio winning his first ever Oscar for ‘The Revenant’, for example.

But to many this year has seen plenty of shocks both politically and in the celebrity world, with what feels like a huge list of icons passing away, from David Bowie and Alan Rickman at the beginning of the year, to Gene Wilder, to Carrie Fisher and mother Debbie Reynolds just a few days ago.

So while you may be feeling glum and mildly pessimistic about what 2017 has in store, the filmmakers at Friend Dog Studios have cleverly come up with a trailer for a new horror film called ‘2016: The Movie’. Of course, it’s not a real trailer for an actual movie; just a tongue-in-cheek pastiche of a horror film based on some of the horrifying things that took place in 2016.

Check out the amusing but also scarily truthful trailer below.

From Brexit, to Donald Trump, to the actors, musicians, and other famous talent we lost this year, they’ve skillfully shot and edited a rather tense and compelling film trailer to sum up the past 12 months, with the tagline, “It’s the horror movie of the year”.

‘2016: The Movie’ has only had its fake trailer uploaded to YouTube for a few days but already it’s gone viral with just under half-a-million views so far. Generally the responses to it have been positive and while it does use the sad, untimely deaths of a number of beloved faces as material for satire, we don’t think it’s disrespectful and pays more of a homage to said icons.

With all the original ideas in Movieland today, who says horror movies can’t be inspired by real-life, recent events?
