Sonic the Hedgehog will be seeing the return of Tika Sumpter to the universe, playing Maddie Wachowski.
The actress herself shared the update while appearing on US talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan recently: "She's [her daughter] super excited about Sonic 2, which I'm about to start in March. So I'm excited. We're shooting in Hawaii and Vancouver."
As for other returnees, Ben Schwartz will be back as the voice of Sonic, the super-speedy animated hero of the piece, while Dr. Robotnik's Jim Carrey and Tom Wachowski's James Marsden are yet to join the sequel. If and when an announcement is made, Digital Spy will be there to share the news.
Last year, Sonic director Jeff Fowler addressed the highly-publicised redesign of the title character, after fan outrage reached an unignorable volume.
He spoke of his "anxiety" of the redesign stating: "I think it had been about five months that had passed since the first trailer. We had worked very hard on our updates to the character. It was definitely a little bit of like, 'Oh man, what happens if they don't like this?'"
"But really, everyone that saw it internally as I was working on the film, just responded so positively. It really felt like, once we shared it with the fans, they would really embrace it and be excited about it," recalled Fowler.
