Spider-Man’s Place In The MCU Explained

It’s no secret that Spider-Man is finally heading back to Marvel… and will soon appear alongside The Avengers. But how does he fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

During an interview with Zap2It, Marvel maestro Kevin Feige explained that Peter Parker will have to adjust to life alongside other superheroes.

“The biggest thing… is that it takes place in this universe,” he said. “It’s the first time that you’ll be able to see Spider-Man like he was in the comics, as a very different type of hero when compared to the other heroes in the universe.”

Of course, this means that Spider-Man will soon find himself interacting with other heroes… as well as taking on a raft of iconic Marvel villains. And that’s exactly what will set him apart from earlier versions.

“Up until this point in the other Spidey films – some of which are some of the best superhero movies ever made – he was the only hero, and now he’s not. Now he’s a kid in Queens with these powers and has other [superheroes] to look to.”

The most obvious difference will be that Peter Parker will likely know all about The Avengers – after all, the battle of New York in ‘Avengers: Assemble’ as well as their actions in ‘Age of Ultron’ have turned them into rather public figures.

But will the new Spider-Man aspire to join them, or will he find himself thrust into their path?

“Does he want to be like these other characters?” asks Kevin Fegie. “Does he want nothing to do with these other characters? How does that impact his experience, being this grounded but super powerful hero? Those are all the things that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko played with in the first 10 years of his comics, and that now we can play with for the first time in a movie.”

Of course, with Spider-Man confirmed to appear in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, it won’t be long before we find out exactly how Marvel’s favourite web-slinger fits in amongst his fellow superheroes.

And with a conflict brewing amongst them, it’s going to be a very interesting time.

The next 'Spider-Man’ movie heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.
