'Fast and Furious 6' may have The Rock, Vin Diesel and more but the real stars are the cars in the film and the spectacular stunts that will be performed. The Fast and Furious franchise is known not only for its characters' love of cars but also for the filmmakers' appetite for destruction of those very same cars.
Each new entry has upped the vehicular carnage sending ever more beautiful cars to fiery, smashed to little pieces or crumpled and crushed graves. 'Fast and Furious 6' promises more of the same with one sequence reported to have maimed more than one hundred vehicles. The whole production required around 400 cars. These are the ones to watch out for:
Speaking to Top Gear, Dennis McCarthy, the man behind building the vehicles used in the fast car franchise says that they used "a whole fleet of BMW M5s" in order to complete one sequence. If that was not enough, fans of wanton destruction will be even happier to note that McCarthy says "We pretty much destroyed every single one." Expect these to likely show up in the London scenes as the villains' getaway cars of choice.
Dodge cars have been featured a great deal over the franchise with Vin Diesel's character Dom always having a particular fondness for the Charger. The Dodge Daytona is what McCarthy calls "basically the NASCAR version of the Charger you see in all the other films" so prepare for a speedier, slimmed down rocket of a car that oozes style. The actual car used in production was rebuilt by McCarthy and his team from the old $5,000 piece of junk that they first acquired. Also look out for the meatier piece of pure muscle car, the Dodge Challenger that will make an appearance.
Michelle Rodriguez's character Letty, rising from the dead in this sixth entry of the franchise, will be seen driving a classic British Jensen Interceptor, only made between 1966 and 1976, every single one being hand built near Birmingham. This sporting GT-class car will likely not feature in too much of the action but as Letty is definitely in the UK scenes, it is at least a pleasure to see the British car making an appearance on home soil.
Perhaps the sexiest of all the cars featured in 'Fast and Furious 6' is the little blue Ford Escort that Paul Walker's Bryan will be driving (and flying by the look of the trailer) in the spectacular tank chase scene. This rally car was built by the English crew and the production got through six of them so expect the lovely little Escort to come to some kind of ruin by the end.
This is by no means anywhere near all of the cars to be featured in Fast and Furious 6 with Dennis McCarthy promising a 1970 Z20, two Nissan Skylines, a Lamborghini Murcielago, an Aston Martin DB9 and a Navistar MXT military vehicle among many others. With over 80 stunt drivers employed on the production though, it remains to be seen how many of these beautiful pieces of machinery will make it to the end in one piece. What cars are you most looking forward to seeing in action in Fast and Furious 6?
