Star Trek: Next Gen’s La Forge ‘disappointed’ in Abrams’ movie

Speaking to ET Online, Burton, who played visor-wearing Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge, said:

"J.J. [Abrams] [is] a very good director, he really is. He directed the hell out of the first movie. I'm really interested to see what he wants to talk about in his upcoming movie.”

He then added: “[But] I'm disappointed, quite frankly, that his timeline negates the existence of ‘Next Gen’. I think that's silly."

The 56 year-old actor was appearing at Creation Entertainment’s Grand Slam Convention: The Stark Trek and Sci-Fi Summit, where he appeared alongside fellow ‘Next Gen’ stars and Trek icons Sir Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner.

Burton’s comments come just a week after Abrams was labelled “a pig” by original series star William Shatner for his decision to take on both the ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars’ franchises:

“He’s collecting the two franchises and holding them close to his vest,” he told Movie Fanatic.

“He’s probably the most talented director of that ilk that we have, but he’s gone too far this time.”
