Star Trek Beyond Undergoes Last-Minute Reshoots & Adds A New Character

‘Star Trek Beyond’ may be a matter of months away from its cinema release, but that hasn’t stopped director Justin Lin from doing a number of re-shoots as well as adding a completely new character to the mix.

Due out as early as 8 July (in Bulgaria), reports suggest the film’s undergoing some last-minute reworking after the test screen audiences took issue with it. Despite Lin’s confidence over where the story was going and how it was presented, feedback suggests that something wasn’t quite working as it should.

Furthermore, Deadline say that a new and extremely late addition to the cast has been made, in the form of Oscar-nominated actor Shohreh Aghdashloo. The ‘House of Sand and Fog’ actor will play the High Command of the Federation, although very little is known about her character at the moment.

It’s also unclear what impact her character will have on the film’s plot, but it’s probably safe to say her addition, so near to release, won’t significantly reshape or alter the dynamic of the entire movie.

While some will remain sceptical about such late changes, it’s actually a very good thing that Lin and his team have taken on board the feedback they’ve received and are actually doing something about it.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ is in UK cinemas from 22 July.
