Star Trek: Will Captain Kirk and Carol Marcus get together?

Alice Eve talks Kirk and Marcus’ relationship

It may be an entirely rebooted universe in 'Star Trek Into Darkness' but are Captain Kirk and Carol Marcus meant to be together? Alice Eve certainly seems to think so.

I know what you're thinking - from the rather provocative scenes in the last 'Star Trek' movie, it's fairly obvious that there's some sexual tension between Captain Kirk and Dr. Carol Marcus. But let's face it - there's sexual tension between Kirk and just about every female in the galaxy. But will Kirk and Marcus end up together? 'Star Trek' actress Alice Eve reveals there's certainly a good chance of that happening…

[Confirmed: J.J. Abrams won't direct Star Trek 3]

In a brief interview with HitFix during the 'Star Trek Into Darkness' DVD launch, actress Alice Eve revealed that she has high hopes for Kirk and Marcus…

"They clearly have chemistry," she explained. "And he obviously listens to Carol which is important because he doesn't listen really, to many people."

Of course, fans of the original 'Star Trek' movies will remember that Kirk and Marcus did indeed get together… and they ended up having a son, David Marcus, who appeared in the movie 'Star Trek: the Wrath of Khan'. But could that happen once again? It is, after all, an entirely new timeline…

"There are infinite possibilities," Eve added. "It's a five year mission."

But let's not forget that it's not all about James T. Kirk… and we might see a stronger, more heroic Carol Marcus in the next instalment.

"I would like her to rescue people," she explained. "That's the goal isn't it? To help people. Heroic stuff."

And I can't help thinking that's exactly what Marcus needs if she's going to stay aboard the Enterprise. After all, with the strong, confident Lieutenant Uhura (played by Zoe Saldana) to contend with, we need more than merely showing up in her underwear and screaming a bit.

"I would like it to go maybe in a more human direction," Eve explained. "This one was very action [based] and quite dark and I'd like to see the more human side of the journey."

And perhaps we will in 'Star Trek 3'. After all, they've just embarked on a five year mission to explore strange new worlds. One of the greatest aspects of the original series was the way this was used to explore real-world issues… to boldly go where no-one had gone before.

But will Captain Kirk be doing all that with Dr. Marcus by his side? For now, we'll have to wait and see.

Do you think Kirk and Marcus belong together? Will we see more of a relationship developing in 'Star Trek 3'? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
