Star Wars 8 Director Rian Johnson Has A Rogue One Cameo

‘Star Wars 8’ director Rian Johnson has a cameo in ‘Rogue One’.

During the Future Filmmakers panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe, it was revealed that the 42-year-old ‘Star Wars’ director plays a small (but vital) role in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’.

“My producer Rom and I – we chose wisely. We chose the two dudes that we knew would be in the movie. They can’t cut us out because we’re the two dudes in the firing chamber on the Death Star who pull the levers.”

Of course, we first saw the Death Star being fired at the beginning of ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’… but does this mean that ‘Rogue One’ will overlap with the beginning of the ‘Star Wars’ saga? Or will the Death Star open fire on any other unsuspecting planets?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see…

But this isn’t the only cool cameo to come.

“We stuck Gareth [Edwards] in [‘Star Wars 8’],” revealed Rian Johnson.

“Look at that, he’s a natural! He’s a natural… look at that fuzzy little guy. [Creature shop] Neil Scanlan’s team does amazing work.”

Sadly, not all of the future ‘Star Wars’ filmmakers got a cameo… with Chris Miller and Phil Lord narrowly missing out on their chance to be in ‘Rogue One’.

“We were visiting, doing early prep work here, and we had gotten to know Gareth through this process,” revealed Chris Miller. “So he invited us to come onto the set… but the worst part about it was we were going to shoot this thing, but my whole family’s moving out here and is going to be living here for a year, and I had to go look at a school for my son.”

“We couldn’t be in ‘Star Wars’ because your son has to go to school,” said Phil Lord with a sarcastic laugh. “Thanks, Chris.”

“We got all dressed up and waited around and they were like ‘we just gotta do…’ and I was like ‘argh, I gotta go… I can’t show up to the school interview looking like this!’ So we had to leave.”

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
