That's what a parody video 'Luke's Change: an Inside Job' speculates.
It is a satirical spoof of the infamous conspiracy theory video 'Loose Change', which proposed that the terrorist attacks of 11th September 2001 were an inside job perpetrated by the US government.

The well-made video questions how a Tattoine farm-hand with minimal military training managed to pull off the "impossible shot" by firing two proton torpedoes down the Death Star's two-foot wide thermal exhaust port.
Skywalker's "family connections" are brought into question also, particularly the relationship with his father Anakin, otherwise known as Darth Vader.
It is noted that Vader called off the so-far successful defence of the battle station to take down Luke, the last remaining X-Wing pilot, himself.
The video claims that he was in fact there to "protect" Luke while he made the crucial shot.
In just a matter of days the video uploaded by Graham Putnam has racked up over half a million views on YouTube.
It's compelling stuff, but ultimately it's up for you to decide. Do you think the destruction of the Death Star was an inside job? Let us know below...
