Star Wars: A New Hope: Obi-Wan Kenobi SURVIVED In Original Script

Legendary Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew has shared part of the original script he owns from ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’, whereby Obi-Wan Kenobi survives his battle with Darth Vader.

Let’s be honest, the defining moment of the first ‘Star Wars’ movie, and indeed an event that shapes the future of Luke Skywalker, was the death of Obi-Wan (played by the late Alec Guinness).

But what if the wise Jedi hadn’t sacrificed himself during the iconic duel with his former pupil and friend, Darth Vader?

Mayhew (who’s also in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as the seven foot wookie) has been sharing pages from his original script on Twitter ever since February. However, the biggest reveal from last week showed us how George Lucas initially intended for Obi-Wan to survive the encounter, but it was eventually altered to shape the entire saga we see today.

Instead of the Jedi Master allowing Vader to strike him down, here we see him continue to battle the Sith before closing the door the hangar bay, trapping Vader and allowing Obi-Wan to join up with Luke and the gang in order to escape.

It’ll be interesting to find out what happens throughout the remainder of this script, when Mayhew releases the rest over the coming weeks and months.

Our bet is that old Ben snuffs it further down the line, but maybe - just maybe -he survives the entire film. Imagine how differently things could’ve turned out?
