Star Wars And Mad Max Lead Empire Awards Nominations

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and 'Mad Max: Fury Road’ are leading the pack at this year’s Jameson Empire Awards.

George Miller’s visually stunning road movie has nabbed 10 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor and Best Actress for Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

Meanwhile, blockbusting 'Star Wars’ comes in with nine nods, including Best Film, Best Sci-Fi, Best Director and Best Newcomers for John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.

Ridley Scott’s 'The Martian’ has also scored highly, with six nominations, and 'The Revenant’ coming in with five.

Meanwhile, up for Best British Film are 'Suffragette’, '45 Years’, 'Legend’, 'Macbeth’ and 'Spectre’.

And thanks to categories like Best Horror and Best Comedy, more overlooked movies like 'Krampus’ and 'Spy’ have seen nominations too.

Said the magazine’s editor-in-chief Terri White: “2015 was an absolutely cracking year for film and entertainment, evidenced by the strength of the actors, filmmakers, movies and TV shows fighting it out for gongs this year.

“With 'Mad Max: Fury Road’ and 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ going head to head with awards favourite so far 'The Revenant’, I can’t wait to see who walks away with the Empire trophies on the night. It’d take a braver woman than me to bet against any of them.”

The winners will be announced on March 20 in a ceremony hosted by David Walliams.
