Star Wars: Boba Fett spin-off in the works?

Director Jon Schnepp claims Boba Fett movie is coming

COMMENT | After plans were revealed for a number of 'Star Wars' spin-offs, it looks as though Boba Fett could be the first to fly solo…

It's been a quiet year when it comes to the 'Star Wars' spin-off movies. We've seen plenty of rumours and speculation about who might be the focus of the first stand-alone film, but so far it looks as though Disney and Lucasfilm are plenty busy with 'Star Wars VII'. Thankfully, these all-new spin-offs haven't been forgotten… and the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett could be the first to get his own film.

In an interview with AMC Movie Talk, Jon Schnepp (director of TV show 'Metalocalypse') claims that a Boba Fett spin-off movie is definitely happening.

"One of them is Boba Fett," he said of the planned spin-off movies. "It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."

Now, this is just a rumour (and should be taken with the usual pinch of salt) but it certainly creates some interesting possibilities.

Of course, Lawrence Kasdan was one of the writers behind 'The Empire Strikes Back' which featured the first appearance of Boba Fett on the big-screen. He then went on to co-write 'Return of the Jedi' alongside George Lucas.

If a Boba Fett spin-off is in the works, then Lawrence Kasdan is the ideal man for the job. After all, who knows the character better than one of the men who created him in the first place?

And let's be honest - Boba Fett would be a great place to start. In the original trilogy, he was essentially a blank canvas. With very few lines and an incredibly menacing presence, he's the ideal character to take off on his own adventures and learn a little more about the way of the bounty hunters. And while a young Boba featured in the prequel trilogy (as well as The Clone Wars TV show) there's still a huge chunk of his story that remains unwritten.

Whether or not this will be the focus of Boba's spin-off movie remains to be seen… but I certainly think there's life in the old Mandalorian yet. After all, he's no good to us dead.

Do you think Boba Fett will get his own spin-off movie? Which other 'Star Wars' characters would you like to see get their own films? Let us know in the comments below…
