Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley has landed her next lead movie role in The Marsh King's Daughter, an adaptation of Karen Dionne's hit psychological-thriller novel.

The film will be directed by Neil Burger (Limitless, Divergent), while the book has been adapted by The Revenant screenwriter Mark L Smith and Elle Smith.

As reported by Deadline, Ridley will star as Helena, "a woman living a seemingly ordinary life, but hiding a dark secret: her father is the infamous 'Marsh King', the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. After a lifetime of trying to escape her past, Helena is forced to face her demons when her father unexpectedly escapes from prison."

Further casting details are yet to be revealed, with the project still in the early stages of development.

The upcoming adaptation is said to be a long-term passion project for producers Teddy Schwarzman (The Imitation Game), Keith Redmon (The Revenant) and Mark L Smith, who originally proposed the film back in 2018.

Ridley will next be seen alongside Tom Holland in Chaos Walking, a film adaptation of the first book from Patrick Ness' sci-fi trilogy.
