Star Wars: Han Solo’s blaster appears at auction

Legendary movie prop up for sale… but it’ll cost a small fortune

Han Solo's iconic blaster pistol from 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' has appeared in an online auction… but it'll cost the buyer more than a few credits.

If you're anything like me, you've no doubt spent countless hours as a child (and sometimes adult) pretending to be Han Solo. The coolest smuggler in the 'Star Wars' galaxy, his rugged charm kept both princesses and bounty hunters on his tail. But while he flew the fastest ship in the galaxy he also shot the fastest gun - a modified DL-44 blaster. And now the very blaster pistol from the movie could be yours… if you're willing to spend at least $200,000.

According to the item listing over at Invaluable.com, the screen-used prop is up for auction on December 21, 2013. Used in both 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi' it could be yours… if you're willing to stump up the cash.

"This non-firing blaster was created for 'The Empire Strikes Back' and was also used in 'Return of the Jedi'. It would have been used in the majority of scenes that feature Han, with the heavier, live-fire weapon being used for close-up shots. Particularly noteworthy scenes requiring this lighter version are when Darth Vader uses the Force to lasso the blaster out of Han's hand in Empire, and in Jedi when Han wrestles with a Stormtrooper to regain possession of his blaster during the Rebels' encounter with Imperial forces on Endor."

Based on the German issue Mauser C96 handgun, Han Solo's DL-44 was custom modified - the barrel sight removed to ensure a quicker draw. Custom made out of resin for 'The Empire Strikes Back' it was created from a cast of Han's original 'A New Hope' blaster and features the same serial number as the now-lost original.

"Han Solo, is arguably the most popular character in the original Star Wars trilogy," they added. "The space-scoundrel-turned hero's persona is irrevocably tied to his blaster pistol."

Expected to make between $200,000 and $300,000 it's a piece of 'Star Wars' history. And arguably one of the most important sci-fi props to go up for private sale. I'll certainly be watching this auction with great interest… and if anyone's feeling generous, it's already on my Christmas list.

Would you pay $300,000 for Han's blaster pistol? Are there any other 'Star Wars' props you'd love to own? Let us know in the comments below…
