Star Wars Rogue One: Mads Mikkelsen Isn't Playing A Villain

Some actors are born to play villains. Mads Mikkelsen is one of those actors, but in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ he won’t be playing one of the film’s antagonists.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, a newspaper in his native Denmark (translated by StarWars7News) the 'Hannibal’ star also revealed how long he’ll be filming for, and where.

“My character is actually not a bad guy, and then I can not say more,” he said. “I can also say that the movie will be shot in Iceland and England. And the filming will last for three months.”

Mikkelsen described his character as “very important” when asked how big a role it is. LucasFilm announced that the 49-year-old had joined the cast at Disney’s D23 fan convention in August, alongside 'Firefly’s Alan Tudyk.

Mads Mikkelsen’s big break came in 2006 when he played villain Le Chiffre in Daniel Craig’s debut James Bond outing 'Casino Royale’. He instantly became one of the greatest screen villains produced by the series.

In recent years he has been best known for playing literary monster Dr Hannibal Lecter in NBC’s recently-cancelled 'Hannibal’ series. Many fans of the character believe his portrayal of the famous cannibal is better than even Anthony Hopkins’.

'Star Wars: Rogue One’ is being directed by Gareth Edwards and will star Felicity Jones as a Rebel soldier leading a team that uncovers the plans for the first Death Star.

The film will also star Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Riz Ahmed. It is set to be released on 16 December 2016.
