Star Wars: Rogue One opens to huge box office success
It looks as though ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ is a massive hit.
According to Box Office Mojo, ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ has already blown away the box office with a Death Star sized opening… and could be in the top 15 openers of all time.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story delivered an estimated $71 million on Friday, including $29 million from Thursday night previews.”

But will ‘Rogue One’ be an even bigger success than we thought?
“The question now is to wonder whether this one is going to play along the lines of a Twilight movie and settle in a little over $140 million for the weekend or a little like The Dark Knight Rises which also saw Thursday previews account for 40% of its Friday gross and ended up finishing the weekend at $160.8 million. At this point an opening just shy of $160 million seems a good bet.”
Of course, ‘Rogue One’ has already managed huge numbers so far.
It’s already recorded the highest US domestic Thursday preview of 2016, making that impressive $29 million across 4157 theatres. And this is just domestic – as of Friday, the film managed an impressive $33 million internationally, with a cool $5 million here in the UK.
What does this mean for the ‘Rogue One’ grand total?
Well, if everything goes according to plan, ‘Rogue One’ stands to make an additional $300 million as it opens internationally in markets such as China and South Korea… which could leave the ‘Star Wars’ spin-off with quite an impressive opening weekend.
Of course, that doesn’t quite live up to the colossal $529 million opening weekend of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. But it’s certainly close. And for a spin-off which was already not quite a part of the main ‘Star Wars’ series, that’s quite a feat.
‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ is in cinemas now.
