Star Wars: The Force Awakens Cleans Up At The Empire Awards

After missing out at this year’s Oscars, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has cleaned up at the Jameson Empire Awards.

The movie scooped five gongs in all - Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Best Director for J.J. Abrams, Best Male and Female Newcomer for John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, and Best Visual Effects.

Other big winners included Bond movie 'Spectre’, which won Best Thriller and Best British Film, while 'The Revenant’ won the overall Best Film award.

Best Actress went to Alicia Vikander for her role in 'The Danish Girl’, while Best Actor went to Matt Damon for 'The Martian’.

There were also three honorary awards handed out at last night’s ceremony in London, hosted by David Walliams.

Actor/director Paddy Considine won the Empire Inspiration Award, presented to him by long-time collaborator Shane Meadows, Stanley Tucci won the Empire Hero award, and the late Alan Rickman was named Empire Legend.
