Tom Hardy is definitely in ‘Star Wars 8’… right?

It’s been rumoured for a long, long time that Tom Hardy would appear in a rather cool cameo as a Stormtrooper in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’. But there’s been no official word on whether or not the British star will suit up and head to the galaxy far, far away.

Now, a new set photo has seemingly given the game away.

After all, that’s got to be him, surely?

Taking to Twitter, ‘Star Wars 8’ director Rian Johnson announced that he would be attending a special panel at Star Wars Celebration that’s all about ‘The Last Jedi’. And included a very special behind-the-scenes picture of some stormtroopers

But there’s one that sort of stands out a bit…

That’s right – fans are already freaking out as they put two and two together, realising that the un-helmed Stormtrooper looks a lot like Tom Hardy. But would the ‘Star Wars 8’ director be so blasé about one of the movie’s fun, little secrets?

Let’s think about it…

There was a very similar cameo in ‘The Force Awakens’ which saw 007 star Daniel Craig suiting up in the new Stormtrooper armour. But that cameo was kept a closely guarded secret until after the film was released. Even now, it’s not been entirely confirmed by those in the know… even though we all know it’s definitely Daniel Craig.

Would Rian Johnson really spoil this so early?

Of course, the other possibility is that the rumours were way off. Maybe Tom Hardy was never, ever in a million years going to be in ‘The Last Jedi’… until director Rian Johnson got wind of the rumours and decided to mess with the fans. Just a theory, but you never know.

Either way, that Stormtrooper looks a lot like Tom Hardy.

But we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac alongside Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis.

Rian Johnson wrote and directed the movie.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
