COMMENT | Although 'Star Wars VII' was recently given a bit of a rewrite, it looks as though the galaxy far, far away is ready to shoot… and will begin filming in May 2014.
That's right folks - after much debate as to whether the latest 'Star Wars' movie would even be ready in time, it looks as though filming will be starting sooner rather than later. And even the notoriously secretive J.J Abrams can't wait to shout it from the rooftops, as he reveals that 'Star Wars VII' will begin shooting by May.
Asked about the reported May filming date, Abrams apparently sounded rather positive. "That's the current plan," he said. "We have our script and we're full steam ahead. Have script, will travel."
Unfortunately, Abrams remains tight-lipped about anything to do with the actual script… and it seems he won't share even a small teaser. "We can't talk about story yet," he said. At least, not yet.
But when asked when we'd hear some official casting news, it seems he was a bit more forthcoming… if only for his own sanity. "Soon," he said. "And I look forward to that so that we can get past it and we can get on with it."
Does this mean that we'll get some official casting confirmations in the near future? I can't help thinking that's a certainty. Abrams has already confirmed that the script is finished and that filming begins in as little as four months. If you ask me, we should be expecting casting confirmations sooner rather than later. And after all this speculation, that's only a good thing.
But will we see confirmation that Hamill, Ford and Fisher will return? Will they reveal the all-new cast first? And will any of them have found their roles from the recent open casting calls? For now, we'll have to wait and see… but I get the feeling we won't have to wait too long.
Will we hear an official casting announcement sometime soon? Are they really due to start filming in as little as two months? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
