Every year the Oscars pays tribute to the creatives of the film industry who passed away in the previous 12 months, but inevitably some names get missed from the tribute which airs during the ceremony.

With the 2021 award season taking place later in the year than usual, due to the pandemic, this year's In Memoriam at the Academy Awards had a longer list of names to choose from than usual, leaving more room for error than usual.

Among the stars who unfortunately didn't make the cut and were missed off the In Memoriam segment this year were Arrested Development star Jessica Walter, Glee star Naya Rivera, broadway actor Nick Cordero and Oscar-nominated songwriter Adam Schlesinger. Cordero and Schlesinger both died after contracted COVID-19.

There had been some outrage after Naya Rivera had been snubbed by the In Memoriam segment at the 2021 Grammys too. Rivera died in July 2020 aged 33 after a boating accident.

This year's In Memoriam tribute was set to the music of Stevie Wonder's 'As'. The montage concluded with a tribute to Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died aged 43 in 2020 after a private battle with cancer.

Other creatives included in the tribute were Sean Connery, Cicely Tyson, Cloris Leachman, Christopher Plummer, Michael Apted, Carl Reiner, Lynn Shelton, Bertrand Tavernier, Joan Micklin-Silver, Alan Parker, DMX, Helen McCrory, Kelly Preston, Fred Willard, George Segal and many more.
