An all-star cast will come together for the long-awaited TV version of Stephen King's The Stand.
It was announced during the CBS All Access presentation at the TCA press tour on Thursday (August 1) that Westworld star James Marsden, Aquaman's Amber Heard, 13 Reasons Why cast member Henry Zaga and Assassination Nation's Odessa Young will have leading roles in the show.
Marsden's role is as Stu Redman, an ordinary factory worker who is drawn into a post-apocalyptic plague.
Heard will bring to life the deeply conflicted Nadine Cross, whose intentions are called into question because of her ties to the malevolent Randall Flagg (aka The Man in Black / Dark Man).
Young's character is a wise-beyond-her-years young expectant mother who can sense the evil that emanates from Randall Flagg.
Rounding in the initial cast is Zaga's Nick Andros, a deaf and mute man who steps up as a leader in the most unlikely of circumstances.
While the series adaptation is being developed by Josh Boone and Ben Cavell, CBS executive vice president announced at the TCAs on Thursday that King himself will write a brand new ending for the concluding episode (via Deadline).
"For fans of the book who have wondered what became of the survivors of The Stand, this episode will contain a story that takes us beyond the book to answer those questions," she said.
"A continuation to The Stand, I can’t wait to share that with the world"
King previously praised the progress that Boone and Cavell were making in adapting his mammoth novel for the small screen.
"I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform," he said.

"The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”
The Stand doesn't yet have a premiere date for CBS All Access in the US.
