Stephen Merchant Inexplicably Joins Wolverine 3

It looks as though ‘Wolverine 3’ has made a rather odd addition to its cast…

According to Deadline, British funny man Stephen Merchant has joined the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel.

“The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox’s Wolverine 3, the latest in the Hugh Jackman-starring X-Men stand-alone franchise,” they revealed. “Jackman has said this will be his last go-round as the character he began playing 17 years ago.”

But who will he be playing?

“No word on Merchant’s role, but Richard E Grant also has closed a deal to join the cast that already includes franchise staple Patrick Stewart and Narcos‘ Boyd Holbrook as the main villain. More names are in the works.”

Stephen Merchant is perhaps best known for ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’ as well as co-creating ‘The Office’. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be taking a comedy sidekick role…

It’s already rumoured that Richard E. Grant will feature as a villainous, mad-scientist type… and I can’t help thinking that Stephen Merchant could find himself alongside his fellow Brit as part of his science team.

At least, that seems to make the most sense.

Although little is known about ‘Wolverine 3’, it’s said to be set far in the future, and could see 20th Century Fox adapting the ‘Old Man Logan’ comic book series. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way, Hugh Jackman will be re-teamed with classic ‘X-Man’ star, Patrick Stewart… and with ‘Wolverine 3’ set to be Jackman’s last ‘X-Men’ flick, it seems he’ll be going out with a bang.

James Mangold is returning to produce ‘Wolverine 3’ with producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker.

‘Wolverine 3’ heads to cinemas on 3 March 2017.
