Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd To Play Couple In New Comedy Drama

Actors Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd are set to appear as a couple in ‘An Ideal Home.’

Currently in pre-production, the film will reunite Coogan with his ‘Hamlet 2′ writer-director Andrew Fleming.

As it is described by Deadline as a ‘dramedy’ (is that really an official genre now?), it seems we can anticipate something less broadly comedic than we might usually expect from either the Alan Partridge creator, or his American co-star.

‘An Ideal Home’ reportedly casts Coogan and Rudd as “a bickering couple leading an extravagant life,” whose lives are changed when they meet the grandson Coogan never knew he had, and take him into their home.

Gabriella Tana (who also produced Coogan’s ‘Philomena’) will produce alongside Maria Theresa Arida, Maxime Remillard and Aaron Ryder.

The film would appear to be another step on Coogan’s ongoing journey to establish himself as a more versatile and serious actor, as also evidenced in his upcoming legal drama ‘Shepherds and Butchers,’ and his casting as Stan Laurel in ‘Stan and Ollie’ alongside John C Reilly.

Rudd, of course, has recently reached the dizzy heights of Marvel superhero status with last year’s ‘Ant-Man,’ a role he will shortly reprise in ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ followed by ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ in 2018. (An appearance in the two-volume ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ also seems likely.)
