YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Before any of y’all get you’re celebrity real estate panties in a foul-mouthed kerfuffle, Your Mama knows we’re a little late to game with this one having already been covered extensively by many of our compadre property gossips and first on the obsessively informative San Fernando Valley Blog. Nonetheless we feel like weighing in anyways so, if any of you snarky sassy pants children already know all you need or want to know about the Richard Neutra-designed residence in Encino, Calif., that pioneering television writer and producer Steven Bochco recently put up for sale for $4.995 million, than we suggest you just sit tight until there’s something more satisfying to your celebrity real estate appetite. Okay? Okay.

Property records show the 10-time Emmy winner and TV Hall of Fame inductee who can also brag a prestigious Peabody Award, and his third wife of 15 years, Dayna Bochco, purchased the so-called Milton Goldman Residence — so named for its first owner — in July 2006 for $2.85 million. The single-story, glass-walled pavilion, behind a spiked fence and thicket of shrubbery on a 0.77-acre lot in the leafy and wealthy Royal Oaks neighborhood, was originally built in 1951 and has since been considerably expanded and — some will concur and others disagree — conscientiously updated and restored.

The house currently measures in at 4,234 square feet, per listing details, and is configured with five bedrooms and five bathrooms. A combination living and dining room with a wood-cladded ceiling, stone-faced fireplace and a full wall of floor-to-ceiling glass adjoins a secondary den/family room with a second fireplace and more walls of glass that provide a seamless visual and physical link to the outdoor living spaces. An oversized kitchen has hardwood cabinetry, some sort of stone or quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances and a four-seat snack peninsula that separates the kitchen proper from a lounge area with a suite of eggplant-colored sofas. There’s a third fireplace in the master suite that comfortably accommodates a sitting area and includes a bathroom with double sink vanity and a super-sized shower.

The grounds are fully privatized by dense and mature trees and foliage and include numerous terraces, a water feature crossed by a series of circular stepping-stones, a swimming pool and spa, a half-court concrete basketball court and a shady, lawn-carpeted glade perfect for quiet repose and rousing games of croquet.

Mister Bochco, the creator of a slew of hit shows like “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law,” “NYPD Blue” and “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” also owns a multi-structure ocean view compound in a fairly remote golf course community at the base of the dormant Mauna Kea volcano on the rugged, wind-tossed western shore of the big island of Hawaii. The property was acquired in July 2001 for $5.3 million and, after a custom-designed collection of interconnected pavilions was built and decorated by hifalutin Miami-based decorator Charles Allem, photographed for the August 2005 issue of Architectural Digest. Our research also shows the Bochcos coughed up close to $4 million in February 2006 for a nearly 3,600-square-foot, four bedrooms and 4.5 bathroom townhouse-type residence less than a mile away in the same community.
