Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood was planning on having children with his ex wife before her infidelity led to a divorce, the star has revealed.

Revel Horwood, who was openly bisexual when he married wife Jane in 1990, thought it was a "good opportunity" for him when his then-spouse said she wanted kids.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday's Event magazine, the 55-year-old said: "Time was ticking. She wanted to have children and I thought, 'Well, this is a really good opportunity'. I was both gay and straight, so being bisexual, it wasn’t a big issue for me or her.

"We were two people who loved each other, coming together and wanting to have kids before it was too late. But then it ended in adultery. That was after two-and-a-half years. When you find someone in bed with someone else and they say they are in love with them, that puts a dampener on it."

Despite their split, Revel Horwood remains friends with his former wife whom he says remarried and subsequently had a son.

Meanwhile, the openly gay dancer is now currently in a relationship with horticulturalist Jonathan Myring and the pair have discussed marriage and starting a family of their own.

Although he doesn't currently have any children Revel Horwood said if he were to add to his family, he would adopt.

It comes as his Strictly co-star Shirley Ballas has also recently opened up about potentially adopting a child with partner Daniel Taylor.

Speaking on Loose Women earlier this month, Ballas shared: “We have spoken about that, we have. We’re in the realms of talking about that the last six months - and if we have a home, we could give someone a home,” the head Strictly Come Dancing judge confirmed.

“I think it’s really quite important. It doesn’t matter who has the home, if you can give a home to a child who’s been in care for such a long time, I think it’s very important."
