Strictly Come Dancing 2018 came to a close tonight (December 15), and proved a big moment for Kevin Clifton as he finally lifted the Glitterball Trophy for the first time.

The professional dancer finally did it with dancing partner Stacey Dooley as they were revealed as the winners, though viewers were getting emotional for a different reason too.

After the pair were presented with the trophy, Kevin's former wife Karen came up and gave him a big hug, and viewers couldn’t handle the touching moment:

The pair split back in March after three years of marriage, though said at the time that they were still strong in a professional context.

"We wanted to do this now and let everyone know that actually privately we're not together anymore, but professionally we are stronger than ever," Kevin said. "Dance is how we came together and has been the glue that held us together for years now."

They have also continued to dance together this series, which has naturally delighted fans of the show.

Tonight's win is a big deal for Kevin, having come in 2nd place with various partners for four years in a row between 2013 and 2016.

Understandably, Kevin was emotional as he finally won this evening, coming to tears as Stacey paid tribute to him.

"You're not the bridesmaid, tonight you are the bride," presenter Claudia Winkleman said afterwards.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One.
