Stunning New Mockingjay Part 2 Poster Comes Loaded With Hidden Secrets

A beautiful new IMAX poster for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2′ has been released by Lionsgate that wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, and hidden amongst the stark black, white, and red imagery is lots of subtle subtext about the final chapter in the Katniss Everdeen saga.

Check it out below.

Non-book readers might want to look away now while we break down the hidden context of the new one sheet.

According to Wired who debuted the poster yesterday, the image serves a dual purpose as a propaganda poster for the District 13 rebellion in the movie, as well as promoting the IMAX release of the film which is actually coming to the UK a day early on 19 November.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen - the figurehead of the insurgency against the Capitol - looms large as does the Mockingjay that represents the rebellion, but it’s the blood and roses that hint at the confrontation that will dominate the final film in the franchise.

The white rose is a symbol of Donald Sutherland’s evil Panem leader President Snow. He wears them all the time, has used them to threaten Katniss and also, as we learned in ‘Mockingjay - Part 1′, he uses them to mask the scent of blood that follows him around.

Notice how blood drips from Katniss’ right eye, the eye she uses to aim her trademark bow and arrow, which as we’ll see in ‘Mockingjay - Part 2′ is being used to target Snow. It all hints at the film’s trajectory that will see Katniss taking on Snow one final time.

It’s a stunning poster that we’re hoping to see at IMAX cinemas here in the UK too.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2′ is coming to UK cinemas on 19 November. Watch the latest trailer below.
