Nicholas Braun and Emilia Jones's upcoming movie Cat Person has set a release date for this autumn, also unveiling a first trailer.

The Succession and CODA stars feature in Susanna Fogel's (The Flight Attendant) take on the 2017's hit short of the same name published by The New Yorker.

Premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Cat Person follows 20-year-old college student Margot (Jones) as she strikes a friendship with 34-year-old Robert (Braun), who often visits the cinema where she works. He asks for her number and the two text extensively for weeks, but their chemistry doesn't translate into the offline world, leading to a turn in their budding relationship.

The trailer hints at the movie taking things further than the short story, with Margot resorting to desperate measures when Robert doesn't take no for an answer.

Equal parts amusingly cringeworthy and disturbing, the film deals with navigating modern dating from a young woman's point of view, mastering the balance between uncomfortableness and sheer terror.

"Using Kristen's excruciatingly well-observed short story about the horrors of dating as the jumping-off point for an actual genre film, Cat Person will explore the hellscape of modern romance and the idea that we have all been the villain in someone else's story, and the victim in others," Fogel previously said about her project.

Alongside Jones and Braun, the film also stars Geraldine Viswanathan (The Broken Hearts Gallery), Hope Davis (Your Honor), Fred Melamed (Shiva Baby), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Liza Koshy (Liza on Demand), Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) and Isabella Rossellini (Joy).

Cat Person is scheduled to be released in the US on October 6. A UK release date is TBA.
