'Wolf of Wall Stree' star Margot Robbie is set to play Harley Quinn in David Ayer's Warner Bros DC comics movie 'Suicide Squad'.

Speculated at the same time Robbie was first linked to a part in the film, the casting is now being reported as official by Collider, who claim the exclusive.

Quinn is a Batman villain first introduced in the 90s as former Arkham Asylum psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel, who The Joker manipulates into falling madly in love with him.

Becoming Harley Quinn her character has always, essentially, been someone stuck in an abusive relationship (emotionally and occasionally physically) with the Clown Prince of Crime.

In a movie that will be like "the ‘Dirty Dozen’ with supervillains" according to its director Ayer, that sympathetic quality might prove useful to creating a connection with audiences.

Robbie’s career just doesn’t seem to be slowing down. After her big break in Martin Scorsese’s Wall Street Oscar-contender she has been inundated with roles, which in the next year alone will see her star alongside Will Smith in ‘Focus’ and in sci-fi ‘Z for Zachariah’ alongside Chris Pine.

She will also appear as Jane Porter in David ‘Harry Potter’ Yate’s ‘Tarzan’ movie with Alexander Skarsgård and Christoph Waltz.

In recent weeks Will Smith and Tom Hardy have also been linked to roles in ‘Suicide Squad’. Over the weekend reports also circulated saying that Jared Leto might appear in the film as The Joker.

'Suicide Squad' is set for release on 5 August 2016.
