The critics may have hated it – to put it mildly – but ‘Suicide Squad’ has made it to the top of movie data site IMDb‘s most popular movies of the year list.

The Warner Bros tentpole, released in August, was the most searched-for movie by the website’s users, and with all of the top five being comicbook adaptations.

At number two was ‘Captain America: Civil War’, followed by ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Deadpool’, and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.

Seems like the appetite for superheroes is a voracious as ever, then.

Here’s the full list below:

1. Suicide Squad
2. Captain America: Civil War
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
4. Deadpool
5. X-Men: Apocalypse

While director David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’, featuring starring roles for Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto, scored at the box office – it made $745 million (just over £600 million) – it was hammered by critics.

Reviews aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes lists it as having a lowly 26% approval rating among critics.

There was also much reported about a ‘toxic’ on-set environment between Ayer and the Warner Bros studio, with various competing cuts of the movie being made.
