Suicide Squad Villain Revealed

We finally know who the ‘Suicide Squad’ is going up against.

During a recent set visit, the folks at Comicbook.com found out some tantalising details about the main villain in ‘Suicide Squad’… and it isn’t The Joker.

“According to producers… they’re calling the big bad, The Adversary.”

But who is he?

Before DC comic book fans start rushing off to find old Superman issues, he’s not the same Adversary who went up against the Man of Steel in ‘Adventures of Superman #579’.

But honestly… we still have very little idea who it is.

“Oh, you will find out who The Adversary is,” promised producer Richard Suckle. But it looks as though solid details will have to wait. “You will find out not only who the Adversary is but why they exist, who is part and parcel behind them,” he added. “You definitely find that out in this movie, for sure.”

But The Joker isn’t down and out just yet…

“There’s multiple adversaries that the Squad has to contend with over the course of the movie, of which The Joker is one of them,” explained producer Andy Horwitz. But does he mean ‘adversary’ in the usual way, or is ‘The Adversary’ a title which is passed on?

Could the real Adversary even be controlling some of DC’s villains?

It certainly sounds as though The Adversary is taking control behind-the-scenes…. As it was also revealed that this mysterious entity would be mind-controlling The Enchantress – finally confirmed to be one of the film’s other villains.

But she might not have much choice in the matter.

“The Squad will also go up against The Enchantress,” revealed Comicbook.com. “At least, for a portion of the time, as they revealed that due to her existing magical abilities, she’s able to get close to The Adversary – close enough to then be possessed or controlled by him in some way.”

Of course, this is hardly surprising.

The Enchantress has been rumoured to have a villainous role for some time. And then there’s the character’s inky aesthetic, which mirrors the look of the Eyes of the Adversary – the main villain’s foot soldiers which have appeared in the recent trailers.

But who (or what) is The Adversary?

Could it be an ‘Old Gods’ style of villain, with a hint of Cthulhu?

That remains unclear… but the ‘Suicide Squad’ has their work cut out for them.

‘Suicide Squad’ heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
