Everyone’s favourite plumber stars his first animated adventure The Super Mario Bros. Movie which is available now to buy or rent exclusively across digital platforms.

This return marks the popular Nintendo character’s second cinema outing following an ill-fated live-action adventure that divided fans and critics back in 1993 and featured Bob Hoskins in the titular role alongside John Leguizamo as Luigi and Dennis Hopper as bad guy King Koopa.

This time, Mario’s sticking to animation for a new story that’ll see him go up against the evil, fire-breathing Bowser to save Princess Peach and the entire Mushroom Kingdom.

As if that wasn’t enough to tempt you in, the film also boasts a star-studded cast.

Read on to find out who’s playing who in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

At the centre of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is Jurassic World actor Chris Pratt as Mario.

While the initial reaction to this casting questioned why Nintendo’s famous Italian plumber wasn’t being voiced by an Italian actor, the film’s directors, Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath, were quick to defend the choice, saying Pratt’s presence “makes total sense.”

Speaking to Total Film about Mario’s Brooklyn accent, Horvath added: "He's really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a ton of heart. For the way that Mario is characterised in our film, he’s perfect for it."
