Yahoo Movies 'Super Troopers 2' guys insist they would've fathered a child for $25M Indiegogo contribution
The Indiegogo campaign for Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers 2 was a rousing success. The comedy troupe raised $4.6 million for the comedy, a sequel to 2001’s cult classic Super Troopers, becoming the second-most-successful crowd-sourced film effort ever (after the TV-show-turned movie Veronica Mars).
Still, they didn’t get everything they wanted. If you happened to scroll all the way down the campaign’s perk page, you may have noticed that for a cool $25 million, the cast (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske) offered to father a child for the high-rolling donor. It was “dream budget,” as Stolhanske puts it.
As the ragtag cop laugher Super Troopers 2 hits theaters this week, the guys insist they would have followed through with the brazen promise (watch above).
“We would’ve done it,” said Chandrasekhar, who also directs. “Of course.”
Said Heffernan, “We even dropped the price by a thousand bucks [during the campaign]. But nobody wanted it.”
All five of the writer-actors are married, though, so how did their wives feel about their quote-unquote indecent proposal?
Stolhanske: “It was a tough conversation.”
Chandrasekhar: “They had 25 million reasons to think it was a good idea.”
Heffernan: “They would’ve been okay with it.”
Soter: “A lot of that budget would have had to gone to the particular wife [of the surrogate father].”
Broken Lizard never specified who of the five exactly would be the father, and that was very much by design.
“It was gonna be a grabbag,” said Soter. “You’d just get a turkey baster in the mail.”
