Supermarket beep: Asda delivery van driver crashed into woman's car then fled the scene

An Asda delivery driver crashed their van into a woman’s car before speeding away from the scene.

Lindsey Mannion, 42, from Derby, was horrified when she watched CCTV footage of the moment the Asda truck bashed into her car.

The van clipped the side of her £40,000 Mitsubishi Outlander at 9am on February 9.

In the footage, the supermarket’s driver scrapes the side of the car, leaving a huge dent, a hole in one of the panels and a slashed tyre.

Mrs Mannion, a mother-of-two, was not at home at the time and didn’t notice the damage until the next morning, which led her to watch back the footage.

She has since made a number of calls to Asda in an effort to track down the driver and get their insurance details.

She said she had to pay £800 for a hire car while her vehicle is damaged.

The accounts manager said she will be without the company vehicle – which is less than two years old – for another week.

“I just cannot get my head around a trained delivery driver going into my car like that and not leaving a note,” she said.

“It was a hefty collision, so there’s no chance that he could have not noticed it.

“The incident probably did damage to his van as well, which surely would have been noticed when got back to the depot.

“These things happen, but if you leave a note behind then everybody accepts it and moves on in the appropriate manner. By trying to chance it, he’s just left everyone worse off – it’s inconceivable.

“In all honesty, I didn’t see the damage until the morning after it had happened, as I was out with a friend all day and didn’t get back till late.

“I was so puzzled when I first saw the marks on the car, and couldn’t see any evidence of a note anywhere.

“After seeing the footage itself, I just couldn’t believe it.

“It’s so frustrating, I’ve been left without my car for a week and have had to shell out £800 on a hire car. I might well be able to get that back on insurance, but it’s an inconvenience and a real wretch to see that money leave your account.

“For someone that travels around a lot like me, your car as a prized possession – especially when it’s a company car.

“Eventually I did get an apology for them, but it’s taken a week and a lot of phone calls.”

A spokesperson for Asda said: “We’re very sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused to Mrs Mannion.

“We are thoroughly investigating the matter and will remain in touch with her throughout to resolve this.”
