SXSW Comedy ‘Addicted To Fresno’ Lands At Gravitas Ventures

EXCLUSIVE: Gravitas Ventures has secured North American rights to Addicted To Fresno, the comedy starring Natasha Lyonne and Judy Greer and directed by Jamie Babbit that premiered in March at SXSW with the title Fresno. A fall 2015 release is planned.

Lyonne, who starred in Babbit’s 1999 feature debut But I’m A Cheerleader, stars alongside Greer as co-dependent sisters — a recovering sex addict and a lonely lesbian — who work as hotel maids in Fresno and go to ludicrous lengths to cover up an accidental crime. Aubrey Plaza, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Ron Livingston, Jessica St. Clair, Malcolm Barrett, Allison Tolman, Kumail Nanjiani and Clea Duvall co-star.

Karey Dornetto, whose credits include Portlandia, Community and Arrested Development, penned the script for the pic, which is produced by Andrea Sperling and Stephanie Meurer and financed by Gamechanger Films in association with Leeden Media, Lakeview Productions, and TALU Productions.

Babbit has worked with Greer on the FX comedy Married among her recent credits, which include episodes of HBO’s Girls and Looking and Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Gravitas founder and CEO Nolan Gallagher negotiated the Fresno deal with UTA and Gamechanger’s Mynette Louie on behalf of the filmmakers.
