Sylvester Stallone Apologises For NAACP Spelling Mistake

In the midst of celebrations over a slew of awards wins for his latest movie ‘Creed,’ Sylvester Stallone has also had to say a few words of apology.

The ‘Rocky’ spin-off from future ‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler - which was among the films of black origin controversially snubbed by the Oscars, outside of a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Stallone - pretty much swept the board at Friday’s NAACP Image Awards.

Unfortunately, marking the event on Instagram, Stallone misspelled NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) - as well as misspelling the name of his director and co-star.

Sharing a photo of himself presenting at the awards, the 69-year old actor wrote, “Presenting CREED at the NASCP Image awards. Great night, great audience! Our director, RYan Cooglar and Michael B Jordon won!”

Stallone later apologised, “Sorry for the miss spelling of NAACP and Jordan… Confidentially, besides everything else, I am slightly dyslexic.” (He also misspelled ‘misspelling,’ but let’s not labour the point.)

In any case, the NAACP Image Award wins for ‘Creed’ will surely be welcomed by the many who felt Jordan and Coogler (who won both as ‘Creed’s director and co-writer with Aaron Covington) strongly deserved Oscar recognition for their work.

The film grabbed a third win, Best Supporting Actress for Phylicia Rashad - and in addition to Best Actor, Michael B Jordan was also named Entertainer of the Year.

Another acclaimed film the Academy overlooked, NWA biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ was named Outstanding Motion Picture; its star O’Shea Jackson, Jr. won Best Supporting Actor, Best actress went to Sanaa Lathan for ‘The Perfect Guy.’
