Panned… things haven’t been going too well reviews-wise for ‘Fifty Shades Darker’. With ‘Fifty Shades Darker’, the sequel to the raunchy ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, now in cinemas, the Irish Mirror reports that the cinema won’t allow ‘unaccompanied males’ into the screening. Paul Egan, the person who recorded the amusing message for the Diamond Cinema was happy to talk about the content of the movie and that it’s his way of preparing audiences, despite not having actually seen it.
The group were representatives from the ’50 Shades Is Domestic Abuse’ campaign, which argues that the movies and books, penned by E.L. James and which feature explicit sadomasochistic sex, ‘groom women for abuse’. One protestor held a sign with the slogan ‘Christian Grey is a rapist’, while others sported t-shirts saying ’50 Shades is domestic abuse’.
Some early reviews for ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ have arrived… and it’s looking pretty ugly. Critics have not warmed to Christian and Anastasia much, it would seem, since they rounded on the first movie, the 2015 hit ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. “Fifty Shades Darker is an ordeal to watch not because of its gothic eroticism but because of its utter blandness,” he writes.
‘Fifty Shades Darker’ is so extravagantly sexual that some of the sex toys featured in the film actually had to be invented. Jamie Dornan recently admitted to PEOPLE that some of the sex toys, which came from the imagination of author E.L. James, that had to be designed didn’t “perform” in the manner intended. “The spreader bar, they made that,” Dornan explained in reference to a particular device from the books.
As far as mainstream books go, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and its sequel ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ have introduced some previously pretty niche practices into the collective consciousness. Marcia Gay Harden, who play’s the mother of Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey, said: “We can’t talk too much about nipple clamps.
When last year’s movie adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey earned a $571 million global haul, it almost went without saying that the next two novels in the series — Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed — would soon be having their kinky way with audiences in theaters. Due to hit screens in February 2017 and 2018, respectively, the sequels are being filmed back-to-back and are currently in production now with returning cast members Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as the randy billionaire Christian Grey and his lady love Anastasia Steele. (House of Cards director James Foley is stepping in for original director Sam Taylor-Johnson.)
