A new Pacific Rim: Uprising trailer has been released and it reveals new plot details about the return of the fearsome Kaiju. At the end of the original film, directed by Guillermo del Toro, the Jaegars has managed to stop the Kaiju from coming through the Breach, by destroying it, however Pentecost (Idris Elba) lost his life in the process. The new film sees John Boyega take the lead as Pentacost’s son Jake, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld.

Production recently wrapped on ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising,’ the sequel to 2013’s giant robots-vs-giant monsters epic. However, while the film will bring back a number of key figures from the original, there are two notable absentees: director Guillermo del Toro, and Charlie Hunnam, who took the lead in the original as Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket.

Now officially out of development limbo, the sequel to kaiju vs. robots actioner ‘Pacific Rim’ is set to being filming in October. According to China Film Insider, filming will take place at the brand new Wanda Qingdao Studio, part of a giant ‘entertainment complex’ in the city of Qingdao, on China’s east coast. Peter Jackson stepped in to complete the movies, which eventually became a trilogy, and the final installment ‘The Battle of the Five Armies’ hit cinemas at Christmas last year and despite his 2-year investment in the project, Del Toro told Yahoo while promoting his new film ‘Crimson Peak’, that he hadn’t watched any of ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy and probably never would. “No, I didn’t see them [‘The Hobbit’ films], because I knew someone would ask me this,” explains Del Toro in our exclusive interview below.
As his latest film ‘Crimson Peak’ hits cinemas, director Guillermo del Toro has discussed the problems with how the horror genre is treated by the major studios today. With a cast including Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain, del Toro describes ‘Crimson Peak’ as a Gothic romance - and says that the comparative unfamiliarity of this subgenre made it a hard film to get made, as it doesn’t conform to prevailing notions of what a horror movie should be.

Bad news for readers looking forward to seeing the Kaiju and Jaegers doing battle once again, as word gets out that the ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel may have been shelved.
