Of course, ‘The Predator’ has been in the works for some time, with director Shane Black taking the helm after starring as Hawkins in the original 1987 movie. After all, we know that the main protagonist of the movie is provisionally named ‘Quinn MacKenna’… and that doesn’t really sound like a role that’s up Del Toro’s street. “The hero of the new one, the name I’ve given the guy in Predator right now is Quinn MacKenna,” said Shane Black.
James Franco is one of those rare actors who seems capable of taking on just about any new challenge a film presents him – but, if this new rumour is to be believed, he may be set to take on his most formidable challenge yet. On this week’s edition of Meet The Movie Press, the typically well-informed journalist Jeff Snieder reports that Franco may be in the running for the lead in ‘The Predator,’ director Shane Black’s upcoming revival of the sci-fi action franchise. While Snieder stresses this should be treated purely as a rumour right now, he states, “[Franco] is very high on a list.

Shane Black’s sequel to the 1987 classic ‘Predator’ has had its shooting dates confirmed for this year. There have been a number of franchise sequels that’ve come since the original movie that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers, not least a city-set sequel starring Danny Glover, as well as 2010′s ‘Predators’. Black, on the back of promoting his current film, ‘The Nice Guys’, featuring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, will start filming ‘The Predators’ in Vancouver, Canada on 26 September, of this yea, according to the Directors Guild of Canada (via Screen Rant).
During an interview with Empire Magazine, director Shane Black revealed the name of the main character in the sci-fi sequel, ‘The Predator’… and it won’t be Arnold Schwarzenegger. “The hero of the film, the name I’ve given the guy, is Quinn McKenna,” he said.
Shane Black has confirmed that the new, rebooted ‘Predator’ movie will be firmly 'R-rated’. “Hopefully it will be a mixture where it’s an odd adventure, there’s a noir to it, but we’re trying to event-ize the Predator and make it new and fresh again,” he said. Fans of the Predator movies, which began with John McTiernan’s classic alien actioner in 1987, have become increasingly disillusioned with them over the years, peaking with the decision to make 'Alien Vs. Predator’ in 2004 a PG-13.
Could Arnold Schwarzenegger be back for ‘The Predator’? During an interview with The Arnold Fans, the 68-year-old actor (and star of the original ‘Predator’ movie) hinted that he may be back for the upcoming reboot. “I haven’t talked with [director Shane Black] yet but I’m going to meet with him for lunch sometime soon,” he said.
