After the huge success of ‘Casino Royale’ it’s little surprise that another James Bond movie was soon put into production. ‘Quantum of Solace’ saw Daniel Craig return as 007… but it sounds as though making the highly-anticipated movie wasn’t plain sailing. Marc Forster was soon hired as ‘Quantum of Solace’ director. “It was tricky because we didn’t have a finished script”, Forster explained to Collider.
It’s widely agreed that ‘Quantum of Solace,’ Daniel Craig’s second outing as James Bond, isn’t a particular series highlight. The 22nd entry in the long-running spy franchise was one among many movies and TV shows to have been hurt by the Writer’s Guild of America strike of 2007, and started production without a fully finished script, with no revisions allowed by WGA rules. Speaking to Collider, the film’s director Marc Forster admits that he wasn’t happy working under those conditions – and contemplated quitting altogether.
After getting back to basics in ‘Casino Royale’, many were disappointed by Marc Forster’s Bond follow-up 'Quantum Of Solace’, which seemed a lot scrappier and flabbier than Martin Campbell’s lean and mean reboot. “I wrote the script myself,” said Daniel Craig in 2012, who admitted that Paul Haggis’s original screenplay arrived just two hours before the strike began. There’s a joke in one of the later series of '30 Rock’ where Liz Lemon glimpses a poster for 'Transformers 5’, boldly carrying the credit “Written by No One”.
